Gennum Adopts Jungo's Windriver PCI Express® Driver Toolkit to accelerate PCI Express Endpoint Development
Highlights:
- Gennum endpoint bridge together with Jungo’s WinDriver PCI Express. driver toolkit provide low-cost, turnkey PCIe solution
- Solution accelerates time to market for operators
- Integrated solution delivers four lanes at 2.5Gb/s or 10Gb/s in each direction
SAN JOSE, Calif., December 16, 2008 — Jungo Ltd., a market leader in driver development tools, has announced that Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND), a top-tier semiconductor solution and IP core provider, will bundle Jungo’s WinDriver PCI Express. driver development toolkit with its GN4124, the industry’s first x4 PCI Express (PCIe) to local bus endpoint bridge chip. The highly integrated PCIe endpoint bridge offers four lanes at 2.5Gb/s or 10Gb/s in each direction enabling designers of high-speed embedded applications to leverage the full potential of the PCIe standard with a low-cost, turnkey solution. This solution can speed time-to-market by an average of two months, representing a significant edge in the fast-moving PCI solutions market.
The addition of Jungo WinDriver support for the GN4124 chip delivers a more complete solution for customers to develop specialized PCI Express endpoint solutions quickly. This complements other accelerants for the GN4124 such as the reference design kit (RDK) board and royalty-free FPGA (field programmable gate array) source code provided by Gennum to simplify attachment of customer application hardware to the GN4124.
The GN4124, with a pin-efficient local bus interface and broad support for industry-standard FPGAs, gives designers greater freedom to select FGPAs that are smaller and of lower cost to better match their application. This can lower power consumption by up to 75 percent. Additionally, the GN4124 can download firmware "on-the-fly" directly to the FPGA over the PCIe link. Besides eliminating the need for a separate FPGA configuration memory, this enables in-field firmware upgrades and reconfigurable computing applications.
The partnership provides customers of both companies with complementary products. Jungo’s WinDriver for PCI Express gives developers utilizing Gennum’s PCIe endpoint bridge platform a powerful and intuitive toolkit that enables immediate hardware access and automatic creation of custom drivers specifically for Gennum’s solution.
"This cooperation lets Gennum customers focus on their core business and expertise while relying on Jungo's field-proven WinDriver solution for the driver development task," said Jacob Shafir, Driver Tools Product and Sales Manager for Jungo’s Connectivity Software Business Unit.
"Gennum chose Jungo's WinDriver solution because of its well established ability to support multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux, from a single source, which significantly accelerates development time," said Bharat Tailor, Director of Marketing, Networking Storage and Computing for Gennum Corporation.
Jungo's WinDriver features an extensive set of user level APIs that implement PCI/PCIe functionality. In addition, a graphical Driver Wizard enables automatic driver code generation in major programming languages, such as: C, Visual Basic, and Pascal (Delphi). The WinDriver toolkit is available now to Gennum GN4124 PCI Express-to-local bus endpoint bridge customers.
